Jadual Pendaftaran untuk semester 1 2008/09 di sini.

Banyak masalah yang saya terima, terutama berkenaan subjek tesis. Baik daripada batch sebelum saya dan batch saya yang bakal menaiki taraf 'final year' tak lama lagi.

Kehadiran pelajar-pelajar baru juga bakal menggamitkan suasana di fakulti.

Dalam pada keadaan riuh rendah nanti, akan ada yang sesat dan tidak mempunyai sebarang arah tujuan. Mungkin ramai juga yang lewat ke kelas sebab tak tahu di mana. Dan worst case scenario, tak tau arah tujuan hidup selepas sampai ke fakulti kita nanti.

justeru, saya ingin meminta pandangan sahabat-sahabat Kejuruteraan sekalian untuk memberikan sebarang input untuk diberikan kepada adik-adik baru kita yang bakal masuk tidak lama lagi. Fakulti akan membuat taklimat, dan saya mintak sahabat-sahabat sekalian memberikan idea tentang apa yang penting untuk disampaikan kepada mereka.

Cadangan boleh dihantar kepada saya melalui komen pada entry ini ataupun terus ke alamat email saya; wakil.FKUM@gmail.com.

Saranan saya, kita sama-sama membantu mereka yang memerlukan apabila masanya tiba nanti.

Latihan Industri - Kejuruteraan Alam Sekitar - Terkini

Pagi tadi baru sehaja menerima satu panggilan daripada Pejabat Kejuruteraan tingkat 2. Pelik juga bila ada perempuan menghubungi kita pada awal pagi. Rupa-rupanya saya sendiri yang memberikan kad nama pada beliau untuk memberitahu perkembangan kod subjek latihan industri bagi pelajar Kejuruteraan Alam Sekitar.

Setelah apa yang diberitahu, beliau menjelaskan bahawa ada sedikit kekeliruan berlaku. Jabatan Kejuruteraan Alam Sekitar sendiri tidak pasti berkenaan kod subjek yang tepat. Walaubagaimanapun, pelajar-pelajar Kejuruteraan Alam Sekitar tidak perlu risau kerana proses pertukaran kod subjek (bagi yang tersilap isi kod subjek) akan dibuat secara automatik. Sekiranya sebelum ini kod subjek tersebut mempunyai jam kredit yang silap, pertukaran automatik ini akan dibuat dan membetulkan jam kredit yang diterima oleh para pelajar Kejuruteraan Alam Sekitar.

UM helps International Students brush up skills

Updated 26th May 2008 : I got an SMS from Mr Apandi Khalib after I messaged him my appreciation. He told me he also had been telling the same issue in the "Bahagian Pengurusan" meetings. Thanks, Mr Apandi!

Yesterday, I went to see Prof Dr Kaharudin Dimyati regarding my letter to the faculty. It was a tiring process, because before I get to the latest news yesterday, I have already discussed with the dean, then go to the HEP and then back to the dean's office. It's not cool to clean up other people's mess, I know, but there is certainly someone in UM care enough to get things where they belong.

The problem is, as I have been briefed by Mr. Tariq, (a prominent figure of Yemenis engineering student) is that more and more of his friends could not catch up with the learning process in the university. They excelled in their motherland, but here in Malaysia, it seems like everything is wrong. Some of them do not know what HEP is, some of them do not know UMISISWEB and PerdanaMail. It is very worrying to know such development is occuring in the university.

The root cause? They come from not-English driven education system. Another one is the agreement between governments that make UM allows students direct from High School without prior foundation knowledge. To make it worse, an unfriendly environment in UM. One of them said to me, " I swear to God, I would have killed him if he is not my lecturer". Some lecturers took these students for granted and made them wait a long time before meeting them, and some also shoo away these students like animals. But they admit, there are a few lecturers who care for them too.

Cutting it short, Prof Dr Kaharuddin Dimyati said that the matter has already being discussed by the Yemeni government with the university. Now, the UMCCed will be the one who's in charge with the program. It is good to know that finally the university gave them the foundation knowledge that they need. Finally we will not only be seen as going after the money without taking care of the real core business we were supposed to take care of.

What matters most is our attitude. Thanks to all who share this common goal. Special thanks to Prof Dr Kaharudin and Mr Apandi Khalib. Also, to AKIUM YDP, Mr Faruqi Razali who went with me to gather information from the students and go all out to discuss with the dean.

Latihan Industri : Kejuruteraan Alam Sekitar

Dalam pada kesibukan saya berlatihan industri, saya sempat menjengah ke pejabat fakulti untuk menanyakan beberapa hal. Bagus juga menjalani Latihan Industi di fakulti, boleh saya jalankan kerja-kerja wakil pelajar sementara mengisi kekosongan.

Beberapa hari sebelum ini, ada beberapa rakan menanyakan tentang hal latihan industri mereka. Secara spesifik daripada Jabatan Alam Sekitar. Saya pun membawakan isu tersebut ke pejabat untuk bertanya. Ternyata terdapat sedikit kesilapan berlaku apabila jumlah jam kredit pada buku panduan dan pada pendaftaran online berbeza.

Saya diberitahu akan ada pembetulan di buat. Sempat saya tinggalkan kad untuk mereka hubungi saya sekiranya perubahan telah dibuat.

Bagi pelajar-pelajar Jabatan Kejuruteraan Alam Sekitar batch 2005/06, selamat menjalani latihan industri!

p/s: Kepada mahasiswa/i UM (khususnya pelajar Kejuruteraan), Sekiranya ada apa-apa masalah yang ingin disampaikan bolehlah beritahu saya. InsyaAllah, saya akan cuba bantu. Mungkin saudara saudari sekarang sedang bercuti dan jauh daripada kampus, saya akan gunakan kedudukan saya (lokaliti, bukan pangkat) untuk cuba membantu saudara/i sekalian.

Khabar dari Korea

Bersama saudara Faruqi di Pejabat Dekan Fakulti Kejuruteraan, UM semasa temujanji bersama dengan dekan.

Beberapa hari lepas, saya berpeluang untuk berkomunikasi bersama sahabat saya yang juga merupakan YDP Angkatan Kejuruteraan Islam Universiti Malaya (AKIUM) yang kini berada di Korea dalam satu program pertukaran pelajar.

Sempat kami bertukar-tukar pandangan tentang beberapa perkara. Faruqi banyak membantu saya menyelesaikan isu pelajar asing yang inginkan kelas "foundation" untuk membantu mereka memahami dengan lebih baik matapelajaran Kejuruteraan di sini. Sekarang, saudara Faruqi sendiri yang menjadi pelajar asing di negara orang. Harapnya, YDP AKIUM kita ini akan lebih berpengalaman dan matang bila pulang semula ke tanah air kita nanti.

Sempat juga saya meminta gambar-gambar mereka di Korea. Sekadar berkongsi kegembiraan dan pengalaman baru mereka yang kini sedang menyesuaikan diri dalam keadaan suhu yang berbeza.

Keadaan di sana yang sejuk khabarnye menyebabkan saudara Faruqi dalam keadaan batuk-batuk. Faruqi beritahu pada saya berkenaan suhu di sana, "kalau letak susu kat tepi tingkap pun takpe, macam peti sejuk dah."

Special Convocation in UM

As I passed through the PJ gate I saw many Jordan flags being put on the lamp post along with our Jalur Gemilang. Then I recalled some news a few days back in BernamaTV about a special convocation held today in DTC. So, I went to the Bank Islam in BP to take a look on the DTC (and of course, draw some money)

I wanted to be a part of the ceremony but I have to go to my office. So I took a few pictures to commemorate the event.

UM a 5 Star university?

Last night as I was about to sleep, I receive a SMS from a friend who said that today the minister will announce UM as a 5 star university. Also, he said about other universities that managed to get4 stars and 3 stars. And this year, only UM has that 5 star recognition

Let's see whether this is true.

UPDATED: I asked my friend on the information because of my late Industrial Training prevented me from doing much research on the information. He replied that the announcement should be out come Monday. Let's wait.

I read this on Rocky's Bru:

UiTM wants to produce ethical and professional bloggers.
"Currently, we do have blogging studies in our curriculum and this will be enhanced further by introducing a course on blog writing. I feel that the Communication and Media Studies Faculty is ready to conduct the course and I fully support this move (to introduce blog writing course) as it is time for us to help produce bloggers who are not only professionals, but with ethics," (UiTM vice chancellor Prof Ibrahim Abu Shah) told a media conference after opening a seminar on Media and the 2008 General Election, here Monday.

In Malaysia, blog has currently being seen as a political tool rather than the original online diary where you can rant about almost everything. Now, if we take blog at its very pure form, it will be the same as writing. Well, there are courses in writing and journalism already. Why bother do a course in blogging if you can create a blog by reading step by step instruction on Blogger.com?

Or maybe the VC wants to do an Akademi Fantasi approach on their new School of Blogging? You know, the kind that you feature who can blog the best, and voters will decide on it. Maybe put it on reality TV, so that people can see what food they eat, what books they read.

If ethical means putting a stop for an unbiased review of issues in the country, then professional bloggers are worse than amateur ones.

If professional means putting a halt in freedom of speech and to report without fear or favor, then the course is of course another way to suffocate and regulate.

So, after this if you want to practice blogging in Malaysia, you got to have a certain qualification?

Blog is an abridgment of the term web log. Its something you write on when you are in the sea of information (i.e Internet) the same with the Captain's log that records his voyages. The captain decides what to write and to report on. Maybe the words used are not appropriate, nevertheless is the personal opinion of that very Captain.

Blog can be very biased because its a personal opinion. It depends fully on that person. Mainstream medias are biased too. The only difference is that the MSMs are licensed.

Leave blogs alone. Give more essay writing and assignments to students instead. Writing skills can be very beneficial to Malaysian students.

I had reminded readers here about the CTES (Course and Teaching Evaluation System) before, but since there's a reasonable amount of those who forgot, the SKR (Seksyen Kemasukan, Rekod dan Perlaksanaan Dasar) finally decides to open back the online evaluation system.

Here is something I got from Mahasiswakini (in case you do not read them)

This is to inform that the online (web based) ‘Course and Teaching Evaluation’ for Semester 2, Session 2007/2008 will start from 9 June 2008 and ends on 28 June 2008.

It is compulsory for all students to evaluate the course that they have registered. Students have to log into the Course and Teaching Evaluation System (CTES) by browsing http://umctes.um.edu.my using the perdanamail account.

Please take note that students who fail to do the Course and Teaching Evaluation within the given period will not be able to register for courses in the coming semester.

Please remind others. You really do not want to see them could not register for the next semester. By the way, I think the lecturers might rethink on how to mark their students' papers. If the examination results were out before the students do their evaluation, chances are high that some lecturers will gain bad ones.

I was shocked to receive a SMS from my friend, Mr. Vignesh (MPMUM) about a police investigation that he was called to attend. I was shocked because I can't see any links between the case and the person in question. What more, I was shocked that Mr Vignesh thought that I gave his phone number to the police.

But he made me realize that question for myself as well. If I was the one that gave up his number, who was giving out my number to the police?

But, after that investigation, I knew that the police have that information in store already. They have the MPMUM poster, complete with all the pictures, names, phone numbers from as high as the MPMUM YDP, to all the college's presidents.

I was at the MetalTech exhibition shopping for machine inserts while I receive the message. I called Mr Vignesh and told him about the poster in the police possession and wish him good luck with his investigation.

Industrial Training @ ITEX 08

Today will be the first few days of my industrial training. And among my first few tasks in here (UM) will be to look after the 19th International Invention, Innovation, & Technology Exhibition (ITEX 08). There will be lots of things to learn, and I already running errands for lecturers to get some materials in another exhibition.

There are a lot of participating universities; UM, UKM, USM, UTM, UMP, UITM, UNIMAP, UNITEN, UIAM and lots others from other countries as well.

Yesterday, I went for the exhibition preparation. One invention that caught my attention was from Iran. A 16-year old student did something on plant irrigation. Impressive. But since it was prep day, no one was there, and I can't catch the glimpse of that very boy.

Investigation on UM's recent vandals work

I went to the Brickfields IPD last night to give some statements regarding the recent tragedy in UM. The night before, when I received the call to co-operate, I thought it was about the scandalous "Perutusan". But the matter is far more serious than that. I somehow have been linked with recent vandalism in Bangunan Peperiksaan and KPS. So I gave my alibi, for when the tragedy occurred in UM, I was busy at home, studying.

I went there with Shahir, MPM member who supported me in the "Perutusan" and vote of no-confidence against the MPM YDP. Quite surprised to see another two figure turned up there as well, Mr. Azlan Zainal (PMN Coordinator) and the MPMUM YDP himself, Mr Afandy. Manage to give Mr. YDP a firm handshake after my session was over. We started at 8pm, up till 11. I wanted to snap some pictures for mementos, but considering the seriousness of the matter, I decided not to.

And they say we might be called back to assist with the investigation if there is a requirement.

I somehow thought of what happened to RPK while I was writing this post.

Blogging all the way to Parliament

Updated 3rd May 08: And now someone starts to blog, but I am very sure he do not want to make a comeback to the Parliament!

I laughed when I knew about it. I was reading this and this and remembered my own experience. The world is now much more IT-dependable, in a good way. YB Jeff Ooi said that having Internet connection in the Parliament is good for him.He can google every facts uttered by MPs. Now, everyone will get things right. And yes, he blogged inside the Parliament.

Before this, he was blogging to get inside the parliament. It was the first time I saw an online fund-raising for a political campaign. I visited Jeff Ooi's Screenshot everyday to see how much he makes. And also, I feel lured to donate as well. From that, we can say that Malaysia has seen a very one-sided internet campaign, and a fiery one at that. Now some people have realized that it is important to have a blog on to convey your messages. People can see who represents who, and who represents issues of the people.

Yes, there are also sites that cater on educating the people of their own rights. While they might not be taking any sides, they convinced the people, that change can be initiated if they are willing to do it.

It is very important for the voters, electorates to know who are they voting for. And of course, what he represents. Currently, the campus election process does not allow anyone to form alliances to show who represents what. But the students know best. There are sides, but sometimes they do not know what they represents. The campus election banner, for example only states your name, your faculty but nothing other than that.

I believed that Jeff Ooi has won the hearts of many. He may won Jelutong Parliamentary seat, but the truth is, he won the support of many more than that (mostly netizens). And also, we saw many candidates from "Islamic State" party won votes from the non-Muslim. They knew what they voted for.

But the students of UM? What do they voted for? When you have been stereotyped as "opposition" who will ruin the University, will anyone vote for you?

Yes, this is why blogs matter. You might go all the way to the Parliament with it. If you want to lead the people, you might at least tell them what's on your mind. And then the people will judge you with it.

Commodity or Community?

I have this drawing for quite some time now. I drew it while I was in class. I wanted to preserve something very useful that I learned that very day. It was an ordinary Moral and Ethics class, yet the lecturer conveyed to me a very powerful lesson. I drew it on my last class, or at that time I thought as the last class, because I have another two last classes after that in the study week.

I drew this in class anyway, do not emulate me for that. But you should try to play your part too. A little post in your blog will do I guess. And of course, shut your computer/laptop after you have made that post and you do not want to use your computer anymore. (I have quit downloading anime for that sake, because I used to over-utilise my laptop to download while I was sleeping)

It depends on how you view the world. Somehow, you might forget how the world view on you.

Yes, and I would like to have you visit this blog.

Bangunan Peperiksaan UM terbakar!

Belumpun habis demam peperiksaan di alami oleh setiap mahasiswa/i UM, warga kampus digemparkan dengan berita Bangunan Peperiksaan(BP) terbakar! Kebakaran kecil yang berlaku itu dikatakan punca mengapa jadual peperiksaan yang sepatutnya dijadualkan paad hari semalam, 19 April 2008 di bawa kepada 20 April 2008. Tempat-tempat yang dijadualkan juga diubah ke tempat selain BP, iaitu di Dewan Tunku Canselor (DTC), Akademi Pengajian Islam (API) dan Akademi Pengajian Melayu (APM). Rujuk UMISISWEB.

Sumber yang diperolehi mengatakan bahawa pelajar-pelajar tahun pertama yang mengambil peperiksaan kursus English Enhancement 1 mendapati asap tebal di Bangunan Peperiksaan. Ada juga sumber yang menyatakan Prof. Amin TNC Akademik dan Pengantarabangsaan memberitahu bahawa penukaran jadual berlaku kerana BP terbakar.

Dikatakan kebakaran berlaku di bahagian stor, dan tidak melibatkan seluruh Bangunan Peperiksaan. Punca kebakaran ialah disebabkan oleh litar pintas.

Apapun UMISISWEB juga meminta mahasiswa untuk memberikan perhatian kepada sebarang perubahan daripada 21/4/08 sehingga 26/4/08. Di laman utama UMISISWEB, bahagian events menyatakan: STUDENTS ARE REQUESTED TO CHECK THE CHANGES IN THE EXAMINATION SCHEDULE AT THE UMISISWEB WEBSITE FROM TIME TO TIME FOR ALL EXAMINATIONS SCHEDULED FROM 21/4/2008 TO 26/4/2008

Respon awal mahasiswa berbelah bahagi samaada untuk mempercayai apa yang berlaku ataupun tidak. Ada yang terkejut dan menganggap perkara ini suatu yang serius, dan perlu di ambil perhatian serius dari pentadbiran UM (sini). Tidak kurang juga yang menanggap isu ini sebagai perkara yang kelakar (sini). Di dalam komuniti virtual Friendster juga mula diedarkan ‘message’ bernada sinikal berkenaan dengan kebakaran yang berlaku selain mengingatkan mahasiswa untuk mendapatkan informasi berkenaan penukaran jadual yang mungkin berlaku lagi dari UMISISWEB dan melalui SMS.

...of the past weeks

A journey to an uncharted region for me. Well, I have yet to chart all the places I went to, so that some milestones could be relived, and some mistakes could be avoided in the future. There were a lot that happened these past weeks. And I am not comfortable, but I accept that it is a part and parcel of life, and specifically, in doing my responsibility as a representative.

Some of you might notice what had happened if you were always online to subscribe to online medias, and some of you might notice this face in Chinese press. Many others played low what happened to UM's student leadership these past weeks. I also do not want to describe what happened, but just want to state that what I did was something that I believe as right, and I respect other people's belief.

For me, its a whistle-blowing at a higher and bigger scale, naughty in nature, but proven effective. The truth has prevail. I have apologized to the person concerned openly as you might see in some medias, but I am a little bit disappointed to see that some take advantage of my apologies. I took that as a part of the price I had to pay. But, regardless of what happened, I am ready to do what I have done once again, if needed. I will fight for the truth, even if it will cost me more.

Now, its not a time to rest, the final exam is near, the quest for the truth and for a better University continues. As I always like to say, play your part, do well in your exams. If you want to rant about things (concerning the university) and want to brought issues up, do tell me or anyone on the team.

Change is hard, but it can be done if we are together.

Final Exam 2nd SEMESTER 2007/2008 -- All invited!

I wonder whether is it all right if this blog started to become like a reminder to UM students. And of course, I believe that many of our problems in UM started with misinformation, no information and forgotten information. Here, again, I take my pleasure to remind everyone of you about this particular thing. Final Exam.

And this reminder is directed specially to those who are still wondering whether they can get into an examination hall this semester.

I went to the HEP's office to get one of these for the faculty. After that I gave one copy to the faculty's office to be distributed in the faculty level. I saw that wording in the notice "atas RAYUAN MPMUM kepada pihak Pengurusan Universiti". I did not care much about it in the first place. After all, even if I did not do anything about this, I am still a part of MPMUM, and indirectly get the credit. (to tell the truth, I did not do anything about this case, and thus, no credit for me)

But, what made me feel uneasy is because, deep inside I know, that there is someone else outside MPM who did some work. So, I called that someone, and ask him about whether he knew the latest development. He said no, and I clarified on 'the notice'. He said thank you. After all, the objective has been accomplished. He did not do it for the credit. He told me it is OK for MPM to have that credit. After all he is small compared to a big body like MPM.

So, back to work for me. But after some time, he messaged me about a particular someone 'harassing' him telling him that what he did was a shame to the university. He told me the story, about he went up and down the administration stairs and to help his friends. He is a vocal person, but his intention is nice.

I personally believe that without that kind of 'vocal pressure' from the students, UM administration will not succumb to student's concern. These students want fast action. They live in a drastically changing environment. Look outside the UM box for example.

Back to that guy. I asked him whether he can disclose who did it to him. He do not want to. And he personally ask me not to mention his name if I ever writing about this.

Anyway, for all of you out there, it is not because I do not believe in Notices being pasted in UM. And it is not that I do not believe in Umissweb and 'SuratPerdana'. But, after quite some time, we have to admit that there is a break in the communication. So, do tell others about this. Make sure that everyone can register for the next session 2008/2009.

Two things to tell your friends:

So here is a reminder to all of you UM students. Last semester there are students who did it late till the last minute. They had to go pay a certain amount of fine because of their lack of attention on current issues.

PERINGATAN PENTING !

1.	Pelajar program Ijazah Pertama adalah diwajibkan untuk membuat Penilaian Kursus dan Pengajaran bagi semua kursus yang didaftarkan. Kegagalan berbuat demikian mengakibatkan pelajar tidak di benarkan terus untuk membuat pendaftaran awal kursus-kursus untuk semester berikutnya. Penilaian Kursus dan Pengajaran bagi semester ini akan bermula dari 28 Januari 2008 hingga 12 April 2008.

2.	Sebarang masalah dihadapi sila hubungi fakulti masing-masing untuk bantuan. Harap Maklum !

3.	Sistem ditutup dari pukul 12 malam hingga 7.30 pagi bagi tujuan penyelenggaraan.

4.	Pelajar yang tidak mempunyai akaun PERDANA MAIL tidak dapat membuat Penilaian Kursus dan Pengajaran. Untuk mendaftar sila ke laman http://perdana.um.edu.my.

5.	Anda disyorkan untuk menggunakan pelayar web "Internet Explorer" versi 5 dan ke atas sahaja.

6.	Semua maklumat mengenai penilaian pelajar adalah rahsia.

ISU KONVOKESYEN SELESAI!

Dalam perkembangan terkini mengenai isu hangat yang diperkatakan di kampus, perjuangan pihak-pihak tertentu akhirnya membuahkan hasil. Dalam surat yang ditujukan kepada MPMUM 07/08, Naib Canselor Universiti Malaya, Datuk Rafiah Salim mengesahkan tidak akan ada apa-apa perubahan tempat untuk Majlis Konvokesyen yang akan datang. Majlis Konvokesyen akan terus diadakan di Dewan Tunku Canselor.

Sehubungan dengan itu, jawatankuasa sementara PEACE WALK membatalkan perarakan aman yang dijadualkan untuk berlangsung Khamis ini.

Mengenai isu e-polling pula, saudara Shahir selaku jurucakap Pro Mahasiswa mengatakan isu ini masih belum selesai dan akan terus diperjuangkan untuk mahasiswa. “Tapi belum masanya untuk kita berarak untuk isu ini. Masih ada lagi saluran-saluran lain yang boleh digunakan. Kita tunggu dan lihat,” katanya apabila ditanya.

“Kita perlu menghormati keputusan bonda kita untuk menyelesaikan isu e-polling secara berasingan. Kita akan kemukakan bantahan sekiranya pihak pentadbiran berkeras untuk menjalankan sistem tersebut”

Bonda Naib Canselor juga menasihatkan agar para mahasiswa dapat menumpukan perhatian dalam pelajaran untuk menghadapi peperikasaan yang akan datang. Bonda juga mendoakan kejayaan mahasiswa agar dapat bersama-sama menghadiri konvokesyen pada masa akan datang.

YES to CONVOCATION IN DTC

I felt the pressure when I was in there. It was a place that put me in a state of awe. All of us vowed to return to that very place, and when that time comes, we have an achievement as a prove to that sacred place.

It was the prestige, as many would agree that will put Dewan Tunku Canselor as a sacred place among UM students. Remember the very first time when we step inside it? Remember when we sang the UM song loudly as a symbol of respect to the university we fell in love at first sight to?

Remember when we secretly vowed to take the stage, after seeing the Vice-Chancellor and all the deans and professors, clad in the convocation robe ( I do not know the name, but it looks cool) looking to us from above the stage. We wanted to be in that same robe, and on that same stage too. No matter how long it takes to get us there (there will be a long name list, but we do not mind waiting)

Dewan Tunku Canselor was not only gave that impression to me, and to many other undergraduates, but to the accompanying friends and relatives. Imagine the looks on your mother's face while seeing you in front of the DTC. Imagine your father's as well. If they want to share it with the whole kampung and give them a look of your pictures?

Its not the fame and glory that I think the most important drive on why we would like to return to that place come graduation. We know that place has seen many country leaders, academicians, aristocrats, artists and we know that it has been "Producing Leaders Since 1905". (first convocation ceremony held in DTC is for 1965/66 batch, anyway) But how can we betray our dreams to put ourselves in that place? Many of us have that secret dream. Many of us think that it is worth to be there after a long investment in our academic endeavor.

What? 3, 4 years are not enough to be recognized on such a place?

I visited my old school. I look back to the old building. The main hall of my childhood dreams. I secretly dreamed to receive a simple award on the stage. And for that, I have been striving in my class. Most of the time, I could not finish even at the top 10. But, I really want it. And finally, after I 'graduated' from that school, they call me back to receive some small tokens of appreciation for getting 5As in UPSR.

It was a very strong competition between us. Not everyone can be on the stage. You have to fight for it if you really want it. And I don't care how the dewan looks. As long as it is (the appreciation ceremony) there.

Back to DTC story. You knew how to graduate. You knew you have to take "kursus wajib" and all that. You knew you have to clear your debts to the university before attending that ceremony. You knew that after doing all that, you can get on that stage. But "they" have other plans for you. They will still graduate you, but they want you to do it some place else.

Reasons? The ceremony took a long time that the administration seems to be 'not working' the whole week. And they want to sort it out by cutting it short, and by putting 'the stage' at many places.

And there you go. a PEACE WALK will be held this Thursday 27th. We want the plan to be scrapped. We want decisions to involve the students voice. We want to show solidarity, we want the administration to know that we are ONE voice when it comes to the students concerns.

So far, students have convinced the TNC HEP & A. Now we want the answer straight from the VC. Will you support this cause?

Facelift and Development - Engineering Faculty

You probably see that there is some restriction line in front of the Menara Kejuruteraan. I managed to snap a few pictures to record this historic moment. At least, when your grandchild enters Engineering Faculty, you can tell him that "the Menara was a white tower once!"

And I managed to meet the person in charge (he looks like one) and ask him about the going. He told me that the painting process involves Block M and Block L. And it will go on till April. Block M is not yet colored though, since they need a license for the gondola to move up. The gondola has been set up there, though.

And do you know about the existence of this flight of stairs? The one that connects the faculty with the Faculty of Medicine? Well, I took quite some time to know that there is a flight of stairs here. I had used it to go to the 6th College Hall to fetch some thing there. It is a dangerous path as far as I am concern, and thanks to Mr Hafizzuddin, our MPMUM Deputy Secretary, he voiced out our concern in the meeting with the JPPHB.
And the people who worked there said that everything will be over in matter of days.

It is good to know that the administration is concerned with the student's welfare. There are other things that I have submitted to them. Let's just hope that we will see results in the near future. In the meantime, do send me complaints and suggestions so that I can direct it to the proper channels!

GE2008 :Wind of Change

Some hard to find it true.
But that's what the people wants.
tough fights were decided.
The winners were declared.

They know they can't win.
They just want the rakyat to deny their enemies two-third majority.
And they got what they wanted

The other felt overconfident.
They has been misguided by their own medias.
They targeted one state, claiming that rakyat wants to see changes.
And they fail miserably.

They win simple majority, but the rakyat sees otherwise.
Someone does not want to bear the burden of failure.
The rakyat wants him down.

Talk about oppression.
Talk about media rights.
Talk about demonising bloggers.
And guess what?
Rakyat knows better.

This was indeed the best election in Malaysia!

Kempen "Jom Balik Mengundi!" Pro Mahasiswa

Dalam pada semua sedang sibuk berpilihanraya, Pro Mahasiswa tidak ketinggalan dalam memeriahkan suasana perayaan yang diadakan lima tahun sekali itu. Wakil-wakil dari Pro Mahasiswa membuat roadshow ke kebanyakan fakulti di Universiti Malaya. Di samping untuk memberikan kesedaran politik dengan menggunakan slogan "Jom Balik Mengundi!", Pro Mahasiswa juga menerangkan manifesto tuntutan kepada semua parti politik kepada mahasiswa/i Universiti Malaya untuk menjadikan mereka sedar bahawa mahasiswa juga merupakan agen perubahan di Malaysia.

Harapan seterusnya adalah untuk melihat mahasiswa/i Universiti Malaya menerima hakikat bahawa mereka juga adalah agen perubahan dan perlu untuk mereka memainkan peranan yang sepatutnya dalam menentukan halatuju negara. Kempen ini diharapkan memberikan suatu kesedaran politik kepada mahasiswa/i Universiti Malaya.

Developing the faculty - Play your Part !

It is our concern to have a better facilities and better environment in this faculty. We, the faculty of engineering students want to have a voice in making the campus a better place. To ensure that we as the end-users to achieve this, a platform has emerged. A survey form prepared by the COX Group, a development consultancy group appointed by the UM administration can now be filled.

My engineering friends. Before, I wrote about the administration to walk the talk on UM's development. But now, it is time for us students to play our part. A survey form can be downloaded and filled to express your views about the faculty and the campus. Download here

To play your role for the faculty development, here is a few things to do:
1. Log on to www.wakil-fkum.blogspot.com
2. Download the survey form
3. Fill in the survey form thoroughly
4. Send it through email to wakil.fkum@gmail.com before Thursday, March 6th, 2008
5. Tell your friends and ask them to play their part too!

I will personally compile all your grievances and suggestions on how to best develop the faculty. It will be quite a task for me, but for the sake of the faculty, I will try my best to submit a form that represents the view from all my engineering friends. And please, do so before Thursday, 6th of March, 2008.

Time to walk the talk! Do your part.
